| bridezilla conquers fiji
sharny + julius: Saturday, 23 December 2006; Kings Beach, Caloundra

| When the bride is a self-confessed Bridezilla what could possibly go wrong. Absolutely nothing, according to the Christmas bride, Sharny. “The weather was perfect, the guests on time, speeches were short and to the point, the barramundi fillets absolutely delicious. The nerves about dancing a waltz in front of 120 guests only added to the excitement of a perfect fairytale wedding. The whole event was topped off by an amazing and luxurious honeymoon on the friendly Fijian island of Matamanoa,” Sharny explains.
It was a truly Australian summer wedding with Sharny dressed in a gorgeous strapless white Elizabeth De Varga gown and attended by her three bridesmaids in sky blue. The ceremony, at Kings Beach, Caloundra was followed by a waterfront reception at the Caloundra Powerboat Club at Golden Beach. It was only natural that their honeymoon continued with the summer beach theme so Sharny and Julius whisked themselves away to the adult’s only island of Matamanoa.
Matamanoa Island is a small, intimate and secluded Fijian Resort set in the beautiful Mamanuca Islands approximately 30 kilometres west of Nadi International Airport. The island boasts a volcanic cone jutting out of the idyllic blue waters. Clad with dense bush and palm trees, the brilliance of the island’s vegetation contrasts magnificently with the white curved sandy beach and pristine coral reefs.
Shary recalls, “on the second night of our honeymoon the Fijians had a fancy dress New Year’s Eve party with a ‘shipwrecked’ theme and a prize for best dressed. Slotting quite easily into ‘Fiji time’ we were already late by the time Julius finished making my coconut bra and grass skirt, so on a spur of the moment decision (fuelled by sunset cocktails) he ripped off a banana leaf and a strand of grass from my skirt and strapped it over his loins. Only after he had sat down (snapping the grass strand) did we realise that we were the only ones who had actually dressed up. So much for our quiet, private secluded honeymoon. It was such a memorable occasion that everywhere we went for the rest of our honeymoon, we were stopped by visitors and locals alike to chat and have a drink with!”
