toowoomba

The Toowoomba and rural Queensland guide focuses on Toowoomba, Australia’s garden city, the Darling Downs and the surrounding area including Warwick, Stanthorpe, Oakey and Pittsworth. These areas continue to grow into beautiful cities and towns so for brides and grooms, this is wonderful news.

Your Local Wedding Guide Toowoomba
Toowoomba is situated on the crest of the Great Dividing Range, 700m above sea level. Only 90 minutes drive from Brisbane, Toowoomba has twice been voted Australia’s best city in which to live. The Toowoomba region features some of Australia’s most beautiful gardens, and the city comes alive when it hosts the Australian Carnival of Flowers in September. Over 240 public parks and gardens, each with their own special character, thrive on the rich volcanic soil of the region. Otherwise, if you are lucky, you may have your own beautiful garden or know someone who is willing to host your wedding.

If you have chosen or are thinking about choosing a public garden such as Queens Park Gardens, Laurel Park or Picnic Point, you will need to advise the  local council at least three months in advance and arrange  for any permits, which may be necessary. The Toowoomba City Council parks have designated sites which may be booked (for a fee) for weddings. Confirmed bookings will only be taken up to six months in advance. To marry in any parks, contact the Toowoomba City Council on (07) 4688 6611. See our outdoor weddings section for more information. Remember to book your accommodation and services at least twelve months in advance, particularly if you are planning your wedding during the Carnival of Flowers or over a long weekend.

Access
Toowoomba is accessible by road via the Warrego Highway and the New England Highway. Regular coaches and trains run from Brisbane. Although large planes cannot access Toowoomba, light charter planes frequent the airport.

Climate
Climate and weather conditions are important points to consider when planning your wedding. Toowoomba’s average daily maximum temperature in summer is around 27°C, the minimum around 17°C. Rainfall is high from December to February, dropping considerably throughout the other months.

Winter temperatures are brisk, with the average daily maximum around 16°C, and the minimum around 6°C. The cool and clear weather patterns make the area popular for weddings. During winter, dusk can arrive very quickly and so, an early wedding is a very good idea. Summer months are hot and humid so summer brides should consider air conditioning for the ceremony and reception and perhaps bottled water and a nice shady spot if it is to be held outside. If you are to be married outside, particularly during summer months, ensure an alternative venue and an effective way of contacting guests at short notice has been arranged. It is important you and your guests enjoy the day. Consider the comfort of elderly people and young children when planning your day. Finally, remember to consider the expected temperature and location of the wedding and choose appropriate styles and fabrics for the bridal party.
