the bridal waltz

Traditionally known as the Bridal Waltz, the wedding dance is the defining moment when the new couple embrace their union of love for all to witness and take their first steps as one.

It also marks the end of the formal proceedings and the beginning of the real celebration! Following the dance the newlyweds invite their bridesmaids and groomsmen to the dance floor, followed by all the guests, beginning the more upbeat part of the celebrations. As your first dance as husband and wife, the music chosen can be anything that exemplifies your characters, or a song with a symbolic meaning to the both of you. For example, a song that reminds you of when you met, an event that you have enjoyed together, a favourite musician or holiday, the decision is really up to the two of you.

Most DJ’s or musicians have a list of bridal dance  song examples, which can help you with your choice. The dance does not have to be a waltz, it may be a samba or even the tango, whatever you like. Remember however, that you must be able to dance to your selected piece of music. For some the thought of dancing under the gaze of the entire wedding party can be a little intimidating. If so, it might be an idea to look at taking part in a few dance lessons beforehand. There are many dance companies around which will help you feel comfortable, by choosing the right music and routine for you and your partner to dance to.

If the idea of going to a studio is not for you, some companies provide instructors whom can give you lessons in the privacy of your own home. Remember the day is about you, your partner and your love for each other, so have fun with it, do what makes you happy and what you feel comfortable with.
