hen's + buck's party

A wedding is not just a wedding – there are lots of other pre-wedding celebrations you need to organise in preparation for the big day.

Hen’s night
Traditionally, the hen’s night is a night for the bride-to-be to have one last all-out, all-girls party before she weds. Usually, the chief bridesmaid organises the hen’s night. This is a time for the bride - think about what she likes to do. Some women prefer their hen’s night to be an all night, dusk till dawn pub-crawl, while others prefer an evening meal at home or in a restaurant of their choice with a few bottles of wine. Some bridesmaids organise a home party, while others take their friend to the mountains for a girly retreat into pampering and relaxation. Other great choices could be dinner and a show or dancing where you can all salsa the night away.

Of course it doesn’t have to be at night, it may be brunch or lunch. Another great idea for something a little different is a shopping tour where groups are taken on a day trip visiting outlets. Lunch, special discounts and a present for the bride are usually included in the outing. Groups can pick and choose the type of outlets - homeware, food, clothing, manchester, travel goods, jewellery or giftware to name a few. You can even choose the restaurant for lunch and perhaps finish the day with champagne and nibblies. But remember the number one rule - only girls! Apart from that, do anything, invite anyone and have fun, but do not hold it on the eve of the wedding!

Buck’s night
Well, we’ve probably all heard a few buck’s night stories, and seen a few buck’s night photographs. The buck’s night is organised by the best man who often comes up with some very innovative ideas. We’ve all heard of the groom who was handcuffed, naked, to a train seat on his buck’s night but buck’s nights don’t have to be like this at all. The guys can choose to take things a little more quietly if they really want to. Some guys choose to have dinner with their mates and then go dancing. Others play golf or go away on a fishing trip for a few days, while others choose a small, private party at home. A stripper may pay a call, and as this is often a popular feature of the hen’s night, is something the boys are still allowed to briefly enjoy. So again remember, the buck’s night should be fun – it can be whenever and wherever, but definitely not on the eve of the wedding.

Hitting the Town
If hitting town is your choice, do map out your evening before you leave to go out. It will save you time and arguments about where the best place to go is. Make sure you phone before you arrive and see if you can get discounted rates for your party at the door or while you are inside.

Transport
Whatever you are planning, provide transportation or have easy access to transportation for your group. This ensures that all guests have a fun time and avoid the risk of drinking and driving. There are many services available that will provide what you need depending on the numbers and your budget.
