Ten years ago Brooke moved from Melbourne to Sydney to pursue her passion in training for the Olympics. In joining the Nunawading swim squad she met fellow swimmer and future soul mate Jared and their amazing journey began.
Ten years later at Melbourne’s Poets Lane they were married in a small chapel by celebrant Janet Hussey, who encouraged Brooke and Jared to make the ceremony as unique and as fun as possible. “We also had Janet introduce the bridal party to our 155 guests explaining how each one fitted into our lives and the crowd gave them a big round of applause” said Brooke. Current music was chosen at the ceremony with Brooke walking down the aisle to Alicia Keys’ ‘If I aint got you’.
During the ceremony a special tribute was made to Jared’s late mother Elizabeth, some orchid watercolours she had painted were displayed at the front of the chapel with a lit candle and photo. Jared’s father presented Jared’s siblings with Orchid corsages to carry her spirit throughout the day.
“The whole day was a celebration of our 10 year journey together. We wanted to have a big party with out forgetting the traditions that make weddings so magnificent.” The guests were loaded onto buses so that everyone could let their hair down and have a drink as they arrived to the mystery reception location, Glen Waverly Novotel. The autumn theme of warm reds and gold’s provided the perfect setting for their family and friends. Brooke’s brother Kurt and good friend Jon were the MC’s for the evening, beginning the festivities with a superb and unique rendition of the Robbie Williams classic ‘Let Me Entertain You.’ The guests loved it and the festive mood was immediately all around.
The formalities started with Brooke and Jared cutting their cupcake tower, followed by Brooke surprising her father by having the last dance to Nat King and Natalie Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’, in which they both cried throughout.
Jared and Brooke took dance lessons in the lead to the wedding, the Bridal Waltz they chose was ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ from the Lion King, a sentimental choice as this was the first film they saw together.
Short one-minute speeches enabled each of the Bridal Party say a few words before the evening’s entertainment ‘The Urban Playboys’ took to the stage. “They were the biggest hit of the night getting everyone up and dancing.” One of the most memorable highlights of the evening was when Brooke’s brothers Kurt and Troy joined the band to perform a thumping rendition of Van Morrisons ‘Gloria’. “Jared and I stood on our chairs, cheering the crowd on- it was like being at a rock concert”. A truly wonderful and wild night with the celebrations continuing back at the hotel for all, until the early hours of the morning!
